THINGS YOU WILL FIND IN A NAIJA GIRL’S HANDBAG

This is my most interesting write up so far and might even go down as one of my most interesting write up. When I decided to do this write up I never knew it will turn out to be this interesting and fun filled. I wish some of you reading this were there with me when I was carrying out my research, the answers I got when I started asking some girls about what they carry in their handbags were just mind blowing. I mean can you believe a girl told me she keeps a sponge case in her bag sometimes when she goes to her boyfriend house, not that am judging I just find it very funny. You should note that how many of these things you will find in a girls handbag depend on the size of the handbag because the way it seems it is like the bigger the size of the bag the more of these things you find inside it.

Except from the normal phone and money that you would normally see in a girl’s handbag here are other things you are most likely to find in a typical naija girl’s handbag.

•   MAKE UP: Well this came has no surprise to me as it is practically a common norm for girls not to go out without their makeup bag even if it is just a powder and lipstick that would be there. From girls going to their boyfriend house or does going for a friends party or even does that are just going to enjoy themselves at the cinema it is safe to say that no girl likes to leave the house without her makeup even though some might end up not using it but knowing it is with them make them feel complete.

•      MIRROR: Really who else likes to look at their self more often if not girls? This was in fact part of the first three answers I got whenever I asked the question, with most saying after my makeup it is my mirror. The mirror is a good help when they apply the makeup so it is only logical that once you have your makeup then you must have a small mirror.

•    SHOWER CAP: Well I guess this is just a way for some girls to save for the raining days. Nothing makes a naija girl more furious than been beating by the rain and getting her hair wet most especially if it is a new hairdo. This is why most girls always put a shower cap in there bag just in case the weather acts funny and it begins to rain.

•     UMBRELLA: This is the real saving for the raining days. Every since smaller umbrellas became a common commodity some girls has made it a most for them to have it in their bag just in case it rains or it even becomes too sunny for them. Simply put no matter the weather with a small umbrella a naija had no problem when it comes to going out.

•     SMALL PURSE/WALLET : In a way I still don’t understand why they would need a small purse/wallet in their handbag but since they claim that is where they would keep their money and their phone who am I to go against them.

•     SANITARY PADS: Well when I first heard this I was like really but when I got to understand the reason behind it I saw it as sensible and reasonable. All girls feel very uncomfortable during their menstrual period most especially when they get stained and they are not in a place where they can get to change or clean up. Having a sanitary pad in the bag makes a girl feel relaxed and not too worried about getting stained because she has a back up.
•     HAIR NET:  The boys scout saying is “be prepared” and it was when I heard this I knew naija girls are always prepared. We have two basic reason why a girl will keep a hair net in her bag and the first been the fact the she just made a new hairdo and she doesn’t want it flying all over her face when she is on bike (motorcycle) and the season reason still has to do with her hair but this time she will be sleeping over in her boyfriends place and she won’t want her hair to get rough.

• BIBLE: This are for the spiritual people or should I say the church goer, this is only a common trend on Sunday meaning that on a Monday you might probably not find a bible in a girl’s handbag unless she intends to attend a church program that day. 
•    SLIPPERS/SANDALS: To be honest when I was told this I instantly started laughing because I couldn’t just figure out why a girl would need a slippers or sandals in her bag when she could just put it on but again after listening to the reasons I saw it as funny but sensible. The girls in this category are of two major types, we have the ones who want to attend an event with high heels but can’t just withstand the pain so they put on the slippers or sandals before they get to the event and right after they leave the event. The second type are the ones who just prepare for the worst, they have it in their bag just in case the current one they are putting on get bad along the way they can just simply change it. 
•   TOILET ROLLS/TISSUE PAPER: Even though some of the girls that mentioned this couldn’t find a tangible reason why the carry toilet rolls in their handbags most of them where still convince that it was necessary for a girl to have it in her bag just in case the need might arise. The ones that gave a reason said they sometimes put it in their bag to clear up there face when they notice that their makeup is much or heavier than they expected.
• DRESS: when I was told this I was like okay it seems normally most especially if the girl if spend the weekend at her partners house but when I heard the reason for this I almost laughed out my intestine. I was told some girls put some certain dress in their handbag just to bring out the full shape of the bag.  Without much item in the bag the beauty might not come out so they put one or two cloth just to fill up the space and make the bag full so the beauty can come out.
• EXTRA UNDIES: Well this also a common norm among those girls that are going to spend the weekend at their boyfriends’ house they will definitely need something extra underwear to change into.

So there you have it some of the most common things you will find in a girls handbag, the remaining things I found out didn’t cut across most of the girls but you are free to add yours if you feel I have left something out.
