Most
times when I hear about the laws or even the issues our senate do discuss,I feel so sorry for every Nigerians because what they deliberate on
sometimes have no base or should I say it is a matter of money miss road. For example I could remember when our beloved
senators were deliberating on whether Nigerians should continue to watch Big
Brother Africa or not, to be honesty that is a misplaced priority. The Nigerian
Broadcasting Commission is in control of visual and audio and even readable
materials in Nigeria, so it is their work to determine what programs Nigerians can
get to watch or hear or even read and not the senate.
There are so many other examples I can give about the money miss road matter that our senate deliberate on but time wouldn’t permit me but not to worry I will find another time where I would write about all of them. For today I want us to actually look at the reason why these senators would leave their home and begin to discuss some matters that are laughable and very annoying. I could remember some few years back, I said if I was going to go into politics I wanted to become a senator and my reason is simple, they get paid per sittings. If I can bring an issue that would continue to be deliberated on, then I am rich. It won’t matter if the issue is important or if it is a top priority as much as I can build a solid argument for my case, the deliberation shall continue.

Now
you might be wondering what this has to do with anything, not to worry I would
explain it to you. Sometimes last week I heard that the senate passed 48 or
there about bills into law under ten minutes and I was shocked but then again I
felt probably they were issues that had been deliberated on over and over
again. Still with that I feel that for a country to be truly developed bills shouldn’t
be rushed, they should go through proper scrutiny and it should be well
deliberated on. Just yesterday night I came across something on Nairaland and I
just lost it, it was actually the respond of Fani-Kayode to the law that
allows an 11year old to have sex in Nigeria. It wasn't what he said that concerns
me but the fact that the senate wants the official age for having sex in Nigeria
to be 11years, now tell me if that isn’t a money
miss road discussion. It is so crazy and morally wrong to think of an
11years old already having sex not to talk of making that age the official age
for having sex. In defence of the committee on judiciary, human rights and
legal matters who passed the bill, they said “the passage of the bill would
give legal backing for the prosecution of sexual offender”. I say a big to hell
with that, so they want us to believe that the only way to prosecute sexual
offenders better is by making the official age of having sex 11years, I am no
lawyer neither did I study law but from what I know this is bullsh*t (pardon my
word), i see this as a way of protecting these sexual offenders and abusing the child.
The
question now is this, who in their right senses would suggest that an 11years
old child should be allowed to have sex? Just two set of people, I think one; a
sexual insane freak who thinks having sex with underage is the best form of
entertainment, two; a Nigerian senator who knows that bills like this would
require more sittings to deliberate on which implies more money in the pocket. Left
to me I see no reason why someone would say I shouldn’t stop my kid from having
sex once he or she is 11years old unless that person is mentally drained. Most countries like America, England, France,
Canada etc have very strong way of prosecuting sexual offenders and it doesn’t involve
the legalisation of an 11year old to have sex.
From
any angle you might want to look at this, the bottom line here is the fact that this bill
is wrong and bad not only for our kids but for Nigeria as a country, I mean if
a child of 11years old can have sex technically that child is an adult because
technically sex is for adults. So if an 11years old can be allowed to have sex, then I propose they should also
allow that 11year old fend for his/herself, drive a car, get a job, in fact contest for election, that wouldn’t be a bad thing right since they are
already having sex, why can’t they do other things that adults can do.
At this juncture I would like to call on every
well meaning Nigerians to say no to this law unless you are ready to allow your
child to be abuse because from the way I see it, this is another form of child
abuse. Thank You
