There
is a popular proverb in my tribe which says that “the land where there are no
laws, there are no sins” which simply means that without a law to checkmate your
activities whatever atrocity you commit it won’t be regarded as crime.
I
don't think i need to lay emphasis on the benefit of a good law rather I would
ask what about those laws that are just crazy or totally impossible to obey?
Below are lists of some of the crazy laws that we have around the world.
- · It’s Illegal to Change a Light bulb – Australia
Really
tell me how possible is it for you not to break this law? In Victoria in
Australia, it’s actually against the law to change a light bulb within your
home. Like I said they are laws that are very impossible for you to obey no
matter how hard you try and this is one of them.
The
question I would like to ask is this, what would have prompted the law makers
of this town into making such a law?
- · It Is Illegal to Kiss On The Railways – France
I
find this somehow strange giving the fact that France is considered as one of
the most romantic cities in the world, I mean who doesn’t want to spend their
honeymoon in Paris. This is the city of Romance, kisses and hugs yet they
prohibit you from kissing on the railways. This law came into existence in 1910
and this was to avoid delays on train journeys. So please when next you
visiting France try not to kiss on the railways if not you might not just be
able to kiss again.
- · All Milanese Locals Must Smile At All Times – Italy
This
is a law I think all Nigerians need, with all the economy hardship making a law
to always make us smile in public places might just be the best way to hide our
problems. In the town of Milanese in Italy all locals are made by law to smile
as much as they are walking through a public place. So unless you are attending
a funeral, or visiting someone in the hospital, you must always put on a smile, no
frowning faces around the town.
- · It’s Illegal to Chew Gum – Singapore
If
not for anything at least for the annoying way some girls chew gum, I would
personally like this law to be effective in Nigeria. In Singapore if you are
caught chewing gum you would be charged with some hefty fines unless they are
doctors prescribed gum and are been chewed for therapeutic reasons. Even at
this if you are caught spiting the gum onto the street, you could pay up to
$500 in fine.
- · It’s Illegal to Be Drunk In A Pub – Ireland
Emerald
Island a destination in Ireland I would definitely not visit until they change
their law. What sort of law prevents you from getting drunk in a Pub, I mean
where else would I want to get drunk if not in a Pub. In a difficult to
understand part of the 1872 Licensing Act of that island, it is said that been
drunk in any public place is illegal. If you dare break the law the police have
been ordered to give you what might be worst than a hangover, a fine on the
spot or you risk going to court if you refuse to pay up.
- · It’s Illegal to Flush the Toilet After 10pm – Switzerland
I
call this one a very dirty law imagine I defecated in middle of the night, I
would have to leave my toilet unflushed all because I don't want to use the
sound of the water to cause noise pollution, Nah that not going to work for me.
The
law enforcement agency in Switzerland has made it illegal to flush your toilet
after 10 pm in an apartment building, no matter what the case might be.
According to the government the sound of water flushing is noise pollution and
if you are heard disturbing your neighbours with this, you are in big trouble.
There
you have it, if you are thinking of visiting any of these countries I say better
know their laws before going there. Feel free to add yours if you have any
