THE LAGOON SPEECH

Since the news broke out about what the Oba of Lagos said concerning the Igbo’s who might not want to vote APC at the governor ship polls, there have been a lot of reaction and comment and I would also like to give my own voice to the issue..
Firstly let me say this, I am not in support of what the Oba said in fact I see it as a shame for a person of his caliber to utter such words in a public gathering but at the same time I can't really blame him for his speech. I would try to explain my reasons for this as I will also try to analyze the way the people have been reacting to it.
First we all should know that the Oba is a human being and he is entitled to his own opinion but the fact the he is a very respectable person in the society words like "I swear to God almighty you people would die in the water" is totally uncalled for. The Oba to my best of knowledge was very disappointed that some people in Lagos actually voted for the opposition party during the presidential election and I guess this is what made him to utter such statement. Like I rightly said himself na human being so it is normal for him to react when he feels disappointed but when you occupy a position like that of the king, when you are someone that people hold in high esteem then such statement shouldn't be uttered no matter how hurt he was or how closely related he is with APC. So for what is worth, what the Oba said was wrong because he allowed his emotion to get the better of him and that doesn’t speak well for any man not to talk of a king.
One thing I have noticed about we Nigerians is the fact that we always like to blow things out of proportion and that is exactly what we are doing with the statement made by Oba Akinolu of Lagos. Yes it is agreed that what the Oba said was bad but the way we have handle it is also bad. I know election is still on in Nigeria that why I am not surprise that people have stated to use this issue as a campaign issue against the APC. I am not saying you all should vote for APC either am I saying let your vote go for PDP but what I am saying that you shouldn’t allow the words of any angry Oba (who probably just said what he said because he feels he has the right to say anything) be the basis of your decision making. I am saying this because word on the street is that people won’t vote for APC because of what the Oba had said but let me ask you this who is going to rule Lagos the Oba or the Governor?
If you have taken a critical look at the video and you where able to read his body language and facial gesture then you would know truly that those words the Oba uttered where the words of angry man who wasn’t thinking straight at that time. So before we all jump in the lagoon over this matter let just consider the fact that the Oba his a human being and he is entitled to display emotion but the fact that he his someone of high repute the society doesn’t permit him to do such.
