Adeleke
didn’t see their relationship ending, at least not the way it did, he couldn’t
make sense out of it, he couldn't believe it was their first
misunderstanding that led to the end of their relationship.
Tutu
had already made up her mind to break up with him two weeks before their only
misunderstanding and all she needed was that perfect excuse, in a way we could
say she orchestrated the misunderstanding because the fault was from her end.
Adeleke had told her he wasn’t feeling too well, that he would be heading to
the hospital for proper treatment and he asked her to follow him. Adeleke was
in Lagos, as a matter of fact he spent close to two month in Lagos and they had
been seen each other during that period. She and Adeleke had a plan the night
before his sickness, they were suppose to go to the cinemas but unfortunately
they couldn’t. When Adeleke called her to inform her about how he was feeling
that morning and how he would love for her to accompany him to the hospital,
Tutu was already on her way to see him but she immediately changed her mind
when she heard what he had said. Instead of her telling him she won't be able
to make it, she said she was going to see him soon but after he got tired of
waiting he went to the hospital all by himself around 5pm that day. All his
effort in reach Tutu was in vain as she had switched off her phone, an act she doesn’t
do, she doesn’t even like the idea of her phone going off less alone offing it.
Two
weeks before this incident, Tutu ran into one of her exes in a mall, “oh my God, who am I looking at? She said
immediately she saw him. “Tutu is that
really you, my God I can’t believe it, you look as beautiful as ever” her
ex said. “Thank you, what are you doing
here, don't tell me you came down here just for shopping” Tutu said. “Well I just moved down to this area,
actually I and a friend of mine just moved in” he replied. Just like that
they continued their discussion as they carried on with their shopping and at
the end, he had paid for everything she bought. They exchange contact as he
promised to give her a call so they could see again.
Throughout
the period that Adeleke was ill he didn’t hear from Tutu, her number still wasn’t
going through and that even made him more worried. He knew where she lived but
he had always thought going there when not invited wasn’t a good idea but in
this circumstance that was the only choice he had, so he went to her house to
know what was going on. On getting there he met Tutu at home, she was very surprise
when she saw him, the first set of words she uttered were “leke what are you doing here, I mean you didn’t tell me you were coming”.
“And how was I suppose to inform you when
your number wasn't going through” he replied. They were the only two in the
house Tutu’s parent had gone to work, so they had a lot of time to talk. “.....so why didn’t you tell me, instead you
kept me waiting” he said. “I told you
my phone went off immediately and after I got home to charge, the phone it
didn't come up” she replied. “What
about your mum's phone, why didn't you use her phone call or even if na flash
you go flash” he said again. As she was about to reply him, a message came
in on the phone beside her, she picked up the phone and smiled after she read
the message. “See you can’t understand, I didn't want to use her phone or anyone
else’s phone and please don't even ask me why because I am not going to answer
that” she replied. “I am so mad at
you right now, I can’t believe you would be saying such things, I have been ill
for more than a week yet you didn’t bother to check up on me not even once, so
much for you caring about me” he said in a very sad and harsh voice. “Okay Mr. mad, how your body, shey e don
better? She said right before she read the second message that came onto
the phone. As he was thinking of what to say to her, she said “see I want to go out, are you done talking or is there something you still
want to say? It was this statement that made him realize that something was
definitely wrong somewhere, this wasn’t the Tutu he fell in love with. What could
he have done or said that could have led to this her attitude, with much
confusion on his face he asked, “Tutu
what have I done to deserve this? Why are you treating me this way? Look whatever
it is I am sor.......” “Abeg abeg no
carry that won come, I tell you say you offend me, abi why you come dey beg me.
You come my house come see me, you don see me and now me won comot, abi make I no
comot again? Before he could utter any word Tutu got up and headed to her
room. Five minutes later she returned looking all dashing and sexy as she was
ready to leave the house, “how far I am
ready to leave” she said. like a robot that was been controlled he got up
and walked out without saying a word, Tutu saw him off to the bus stop and waited
till he boarded a bus. As he was about to board the bus, Tutu whispered
something into his ears right before she waved him goodbye.
Like
a movie he kept on replaying what occurred earlier that day as he lay on his
bed, for four good hours he couldn’t sleep, staring at the ceilings as he tried
to figure out what could have made Tutu so cold towards him and most importantly
what was the meaning of what she said to him as he was about to board the bus. Finally
around 4:30am he slept off but the sleep wasn’t long enough as he woke up
around 6:00 am. After he finished his morning prayer, he decide to lie down
back maybe he could get some more sleep, as he kept his back on the bed, he
heard the special message tone he had assigned for Tutu on his phone, he got up to get his
phone. “This would be the last time you would hear from me, I would be
changing my line because of you. I wanted to tell you yesterday but I didn't
want to add to the fire you started already. I am no more.....” He checked
the sender of the message thrice just to be sure the message was meant for him
even though he knew who sent it. As he was about to dial the number, the
concluding part of the message came in. “....interested in this relationship,
I have made up my mind and I am breaking up with you and like I said yesterday,
I am doing this for you. Thank you for loving me so dearly but this is the end, once
again bye bye”.
Like
someone that was being controlled with a remote, he closed his mouth, swallowed
spit and lay on his bed as he tried figuring out what she meant by “I am doing this for you” which was the
same exactly words she whispered to him. Fifteen minutes after that, he picked
up his phone and dial Tutu's number but their was no response, that text was
truly the last contact between them. As early as 9 a.m he was at the door step
of Tutu's house, “she left for Ghana this
morning", Tutu’s brother whom was standing outside the gate told him when he
asked after her. The whole I am not going to give up without a fight speech
went out the window as he began to realize that she was gone. Just like that
without any reasonable explanation, without knowing what he did or said wrong
only for a fact she was doing it for him. What was she doing for me? Could this
be a joke? He kept asking these questions in his mind as he left Tutu’s house. For
a month he was emotionally and physically down, he could barely sleep neither
could he eat, he lost his appetite as he would stay up all night thinking and
wishing Tutu would come back.
With
the help of his childhood friend who he stayed with while in Lagos, he
was able to overcome the pain as he began to move on though it was a gradual
process. Adeleke closed his heart as he vowed never to fall in love again
something he actually did for three years. He became a player, a heart breaker
and the first girl to become his victim was Chioma whom he met on the last
day of his second semester examination of his 3rd year in school. Using his
gift of knowing if a girl needs a boyfriend or not made his target an easy
catch, once he could sense the desperation of I need in boyfriend in any
of the girls he spoke to, he starts his false mind game. Very pretty and nice
shaped Chioma fell for his charm and sweet mouth under two days and within a month
he had gotten under her skirt and at the end of the second month he broke her
heart and was onto the next one. From Chioma to Linda to Nike and within the
space of three month he had broken the hearts of over twenty girls after successfully
getting under their skirt.
